Austalian GT Production Car Championship Century Batteries Australian GT Production Car Championship was Round Five of the championship. Neil Bates three times Australian Rally championship had his first run in the Dodge Viper. The Porsche of Peter Fitzgerald and Ferrari of John Bowe were the fastest qualifyer with the Porsches of Domenic Beninca and Ed Atkin hot on the pace. Bates in the Dodge Viper Race one Peter Fitzgerald lead off the start and was followed by Bowe in the Ferrari and Beninca and Ed Aitkin in their Porsches. Fitzgerald opened up a lead over the rest of the pack but Bowe, Beninca and Aitkin battle hard for second position. Another battle was looming for sixth position between John Burke in his Toyota Supra RZ who was just managing to hold off Max Dunn in his Porsche RSCS. Class B saw Andrej Pavicevic open a commanding lead over Chris Kousparis in another Subaru Impreza and Murray Carter in a Nissan 200SX Turbo. Results Race One Class A 1st Peter Fitzgerald Porsche 911 RSCS 2nd John Bowe Ferrari F355 Challenge 3rd Domenic Beninca Porsche 911 RSCS Class B 1st Andrej Pavicevic Subaru Impreza WRX Class C 1st Paul Gover Ford Falcon XR6 Class D 1st Troy Searle BMW 32i Class E 1st Nigel Stones Suzuki GTi Race Two Saw Fitzgerald and Bowe of the start well with Fitzgerald get the early lead with Bowe passing Fitzgerald on lap two to take the lead of Fitzgerald for the first time in the two races. Fitzgerald put pressure on Bowe and Bowe finally succumbed to the pressure spinning on lap 9 giving Fitzgerald back the race lead. Bowe had fallen back into the clutches of Dodge Viper driver Neil Bates who managed to pass Bowe many times on the long straights with the tremendous power of the Viper but every time Bowe managed to repass Bates under brakes. Fitzgerald took a comfortable win ahead of the Bowe who was closely followed by Bates and Ed Aitkin who had made a last lap charge.

The 1998 GT Production Showroom Showdown saw John Bowe in his Ross Palmer Motorsport Ferrari Contest against The Porsches of series leader Domenic Beninca, Peter Fitzgerald, Ed Atken and Rodney Forbes. Bowe Lead all the way, but behind there was a good scrap between Fitzgerald, Forbes and Benica untill Fitzgerald pulled away.
